Winter is not over yet on Vancouver Island.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for east Vancouver Island and inland Vancouver Island due to snow that is expected Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The weather agency said a weak weather system will track southward off the west coast of Vancouver Island on Saturday night, spreading moisture across the Island. With a cool air mass, most areas should see some snow.

Significant accumulations are unlikely along the immediate coast. However, areas away from the water and over higher terrain could see snowfall amounts of up to five centimetres before the system moves off to the south Sunday morning.

The parts of east Vancouver Island that are under the weather statement are Courtenay to Campbell River, Duncan to Nanaimo and Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay. All of inland Vancouver Island falls under the weather statement.

If you are in those areas and have any snow photos from Saturday night or Sunday morning you would like to share with CHEK News, email [email protected].
