Snow that has hit parts of Vancouver Island and the lower mainland Tuesday has resulted in some delays on roads and in the sky.

Higher elevation areas like the Malahat are seeing higher amounts of snow. The Sutton pass on Highway 4 leading to Tofino and Ucluelet is experiencing heavy snow.

Drivers are urged to be careful on roads.

Some flights in and out of Victoria International Airport are seeing delays or cancellations. Larger amounts of snow have hit the mainland, closing campuses and impacting Vancouver International Airport.

Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for East Vancouver Island and a special weather statement for Inland Vancouver Island.

On the east, amounts could range from five to 20 centimeters. Inland they can range from five to ten. Over higher elevations of inland highways ten centimeters of snow is possible.

Warmer air is expected to arrive Tuesday afternoon, bringing rain. By Wednesday much of the region should be experiencing rain.
