Smoke from dumpster fire forces Saanich businesses to temporarily close

Smoke from a dumpster fire forced several businesses in Saanich to close temporarily Tuesday.

Crews responded after reports of the fire inside a parking garage on the 1500-block of Cedar Hill Cross Road at around 9:30 a.m.

They were able to quickly to put out it, but the smoke spread through the parkade and to the above businesses forcing them to leave.

The Saanich Fire Department were able to use high powered fans to clear the smoke. They are investigating the cause and say it appears suspicious.

There was no significant damaged caused by the fire.
