Small plane makes emergency landing on busy Surrey highway Friday

A small Cessna 152 made an emergency landing on a busy Surrey highway Friday evening, after a mishap during a flight lesson.

Surrey RCMP say the aircraft landed on Highway 17 at Tannery Road around 6:40 p.m. after the student pilot and instructor on board ran into mechanical issues.

The instructor took control during the emergency and landed on the major roadway.

The aircraft and vehicles on the road were undamaged following the landing. The two on board suffered no injuries.

Emergency crews closed the westbound lane in the the area for several hours.

Later the aircraft was cleared for takeoff from the highway by Transportation Safety Board officials.

The incident is under investigation by the TSB.
