A semi-truck is currently overturned on the side of the Pacific Rim Highway after crashing into the side barrier.
In a video sent in from a CHEK viewer, the semi-truck looks to have crashed over the barrier on the right-hand side of the highway heading into Ucluelet, now nearly upside down. Witnesses say the crash happened around noon on Monday.
With most of the truck off the road, neither lane is blocked, but witnesses say the fire department, police and emergency services are on scene.
“The man was so lucky,” said Julie Steward, who witnessed the aftermath of the crash. “[The] man crawled out after dozens of bystanders rushed to assist him.”
Steward says the man did not appear to be seriously injured as he climbed out of the truck window, but ambulance services are on scene.
She arrived one minute after the crash and didn’t see it, but says the truck overturned right after a sharp corner.
“With the windy roads, it was a miracle no other vehicles were involved in the accident,” said the witness.
There is no information yet on the cause of the crash or the current state of the driver.
CHEK News has reached out to the Ucluelet RCMP and will update this page when more information is available.
