There were no life-threatening injuries in a multi-vehicle crash in Mill Bay that saw a semi lose its load Tuesday morning.

Island District Traffic Services Corporal Scott Seutter says just after 8 a.m., Shawnigan Lake RCMP responded to reports of a serious commercial vehicle collision at the Intersection of Highway 1 and Deloume Road.

Seutter says it appears a northbound semi carrying dressed lumber was involved in a collision with three other vehicles at the intersection.

“While the intersection does look quite catastrophic, we can report at this time the occupants of the other three vehicles suffered non-life threatening injuries,” Seutter said, adding the driver of the semi did not suffer life-threatening injuries, as well.

Investigators have ruled out speed or alcohol as a cause in the crash.

RCMP collision reconstruction personnel, commercial vehicle safety investigators and transport ministry officials are on the scene and Seutter says investigations will take place for much of the day assessing evidence to determine the cause of the crash.

As of 5 p.m., Drive BC said all lanes on Highway 19 are open.
