A police investigation is underway after a body was found at Esquimalt Lagoon Thursday morning, according to West Shore RCMP.

At around 11:30 a.m., Mounties responded to a report of a deceased person found in the water in Colwood.

In a news release, RCMP said the circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated, but foul play is not suspected.

The person’s identity was not released.

“No further information can be provided pending the next of kin notification,” said Const. Meghan Groulx, spokesperson for West Shore RCMP.

Groulx said a section of Ocean Boulevard, closed to the public to give emergency crews space to investigate, has since reopened.

An investigation into the death by the BC Coroners Service is also underway.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.
