Major crimes unit investigating death on Pandora Avenue

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crimes Unit (VIIMCU) is investigating after a man was fatally injured along Pandora Avenue in Victoria early Thursday morning.

Paramedics called Victoria police around 3:45 a.m. Thursday for a man in “medical distress” along the 1000-block of Pandora Avenue.

Police did not specify what the man’s injuries were, but did say that he was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he “succumbed to his injuries” later Thursday.

Foul play is suspected in his death, and the VIIMCU is now heading the investigation., according to VicPD.

“Risk to the public is low and actively being managed at this time,” said Victoria police in a release Thursday.

Around noon Thursday, a section of Pandora Avenue, heading east between Vancouver Street and Cook Street, remained closed to traffic.

Westbound traffic on this stretch of Pandora Avenue was open to vehicles, bikes and pedestrians, however.

“Further details about this investigation cannot be shared at this time,” said VicPD.
