The B.C. government says the new second northbound through lane on Highway 1 at the West Shore Parkway intersection is open.

Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) between the Leigh Road interchange and the West Shore Parkway signal intersection has been widened to four lanes with median barrier separation and roadside protections.

The B.C. government said the opening of the new second northbound lane will eliminate the existing northbound highway through lane merge at Leigh Road. The two northbound highway through lanes now merge north of the West Shore Parkway traffic lights.

Construction between Leigh Road and West Shore Parkway, which started in September 2019, is still going on.

Drivers can expect ongoing and periodic 60 km/h construction speed zones while the final work is completed over the coming weeks.

Drivers are advised to use caution, follow the directions of traffic control personnel and obey the construction speed zone limit when it is in place.

The posted speed limit will be increased to 90 km/h on the highway between Millstream Road and West Shore Parkway.
