Victoria Police say this is a small sample of the retail merchandise that was found with the search warrant.

Victoria Police say after an investigation, officers were granted a search warrant for two Victoria residences which uncovered a drug trafficking and retail theft operation.

In January, police say officers conducting an investigation learned that a large amount of stolen property from downtown retailers was part of an operation where people would “sell” the stolen items for drugs.

The people would call a centralized phone number, and a dispatcher would appraise the items over the phone and provide a value in drugs. A driver would then meet the seller and exchange the property for drugs.

In a release, VicPD says the people involved in the operation would often make requests for desired items.

On Feb. 23, officers conducted a search warrant at residences in the 700-block of Courtney Street and the 600-block of Speed Avenue where approximately $94,000 in retail merchandise, a security tag remover and money counter, 2.5 kilograms of drugs, and approximately $19,000 in Canadian currency was found.

Police say this file remains under investigation.
