Authorities are searching for 42-year-old Daniel Borthwick after a boat washed up in Deep Cove Bay.

Authorities fear a 42-year-old man from Cowichan Bay fell off his boat after an eight-foot zodiac boat washed up in Deep Cove Bay Wednesday.

After receiving a report of the boat, an investigation by Sidney/North Saanich RCMP revealed that it belonged to Daniel Borthwick, who resides on a boat moored in Cowichan Bay.

Borthwick was last seen Tuesday in Cowichan Bay taking pictures of seals.

Attempts to locate him have not been successful and authorities fear he may have fallen off his zodiac.

An air and water search from Cowichan Bay to Deep Cove by Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, 442 Air Squadron, the Canadian Coast Guard and RCMP West Coast Marine turned up no signs of Borthwick.

He is described as Caucasian standing 5-feet-8-inches tall with a heavy build, brown curly balding hair and a full beard.

Anyone with information on Borthwick’s whereabouts is asked to call North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP.
