Schneider, Grandy win B.C. Curling Championships in Esquimalt

Team Schneider advanced to the 2024 Brier in Regina after winning the provincial championships at the Archie Browning Sports Centre.

Archie Browning Sports Centre in Esquimalt was the place to be for curling fans this weekend, as the men’s and women’s provincial championships took place.

In the women’s championships, Team Grandy out of Vancouver took first place, beating Team Brown.

Brown took the lead in the first end with one point, with Grandy scoring five, two then one point in the second through fourth end.

In the fifth round Brown scored one point, followed by three points to Grandy in the sixth end, then one point to Brown in the seventh.

Neither team scored points in the eighth end, at which point Brown conceded, making Grandy the winning team with a score of 11-3.

Team Brown earned a wild card spot, so both teams will be going to the Scotties in Calgary Feb. 16-25.

In the men’s championship, Team Schneider beat Team Montgomery 5-2. Both teams are based out of Victoria.

Zero points were scored in the first five ends, then Schneider scored one point in the sixth end.

Montgomery then pulled ahead in the seventh end scoring two points.

Schneider then clinched the victory by scoring three points in the eighth end, then one in the ninth end.

The team will now advance to the 2024 Brier in Regina on March 1-10.
