Salt Spring RCMP say officers have arrested and charged a 55-year-old man after he allegedly committed two robberies within the same month.

RCMP say that on Jan. 2, 2024, Joao Soares stole a tip jar from a gas station on Fulford Ganges road. He was later arrested and released with a future court date.

Weeks later on Jan. 29, police responded to the Salt Spring Island Pharmasave for a report of robbery the day before. Police say that Soares allegedly went inside and demanded cash. He was later arrested and held in custody.

Crown Counsel approved charges with one count of theft and one count of robbery against Soares.

His next court appearance is on March 8.
