Police in Saanich are letting the public know that a bear was spotted in a residential area early Friday morning.

The black bear, described as large, walked across the yard of a home at around 5:10 a.m. and was last seen walking westbound on Hector Road.

It did not exhibit aggressive behaviour or approach homes, and appeared to be alone, police said.

Police weren’t able to track down the bear and have notified the BC Conservation Officer Service.

People living in the area are asked to call police immediately if they see the bear.
