Saanich Police are investigating a reported sexual assault in Gordon Head early Sunday morning.

They say an unknown man carrying a knife entered a townhouse located on the 3900-block of Wolf Street around 2 am.  A 22-year-old female who was staying with friends from UVIC was sexually assaulted.

The woman lives on the Lower Mainland and does not know her attacker.

She described the suspect as tall with short blond hair. He was athletic looking and could have possibly been wearing glasses. At the time of the attack, the home was in darkness.

Police say major crimes and forensic investigators have been on scene throughout the night and day at Wolf Street.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are reminding people living in the area to remain vigilant and ensure their homes are secure at night.

Saanich police say it is known to investigators that some residences in the area, where multiple university students are living together, are not being secured. Although police do not feel the public at large are in danger, they remind everyone to ensure their homes are locked as it is possible the suspect had prior knowledge of the home being insecure.

The victim is recovering and is being supported by friends and other services.

Police believe the male would have fled the scene shortly after 2 a.m, and are seeking any witnesses who may have observed suspicious activity around this time in the area surrounding the Gordon Head Townhouse complex.
