A driver is facing “significant consequences” for impaired driving after causing a collision in Saanich.

Just after 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Saanich Police officers were called to the intersection of Quadra Street and Union Road to investigate a potentially serious accident.

A vehicle had turned left at the intersection in front of another vehicle, and was t-boned.

“Collisions at intersections have the potential for very serious injuries, which fortunately was not the case here,” said Cst. Markus Anastasiades.

Neither driver was injured however police noticed some signs of impairment on the driver who had turned left and caused the collision.

The at-fault driver failed a roadside breath test and officers believe the driver was impaired by alcohol.

That driver immediately received a 90-day driving suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days. Police also issued a violation ticket to the driver for failing to yield while making a left turn.

“This driver is now facing significant consequences and will not be driving on our roads for some time now,” said Cst. Anastasiades

The other vehicle was towed due to the extensive damage caused by the crash.

Saanich Police remind everyone to follow the rules of the road,  as excessive speeding has increased by 320% in the region since the start of the pandemic.
