A man is in custody and Saanich Police are looking for witnesses after he smashed a window of the CIBC bank on the 2900 block of Tillicum Road Tuesday night.

The man was also said to be brandishing a knife, while in the area of the bank as well.

Police say the incident took place at approximately 6:20 p.m. and suggest there were several witnesses on the scene.

Officers spoke to several witnesses who saw the man, however, believe there might be others who directly encountered the suspect and have yet to talk with authorities.

“We believe there may be at least one person in the area of the bank who had a direct interaction with this man but left before police arrived,” said media relations officer Cst. Markus Anastasiades. “Investigators are trying to determine the events leading up to the arrest of this man.”

A 59-year-old man is currently in custody and facing charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief under $5,000.

If you saw this man or had a direct encounter with him, the Saanich Police Department is asking you to call their non-emergency line at 250-475-4321.
