Saanich police are investigating a sexual assault that reportedly occurred at UVic on Tuesday.

A male student at the university said the assault occurred in a men’s washroom on the first floor of the Cornett Building on Tuesday afternoon.

He reported that a heavy-set white man with medium-length salt and pepper hair, who is at least 60 years old, sexually assaulted him before fleeing on foot.

The incident was reported to UVic campus security the next day.

Saanich police are investigating the incident, and the university is reminding the school community that campus security and supports are available.

It adds that campus security conducts patrols 24 hours a day and will be closely monitoring the area.

“We are sharing this information out of care and concern for the campus community and out of an abundance of caution as the perpetrator remains unidentified,” said UVic in a campus safety bulletin Wednesday.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Saanich police special investigation section at 250-475-4321.
