Saanich Police investigating late-night fatal apartment fire

The Saanich Police Department, along with Saanich Fire, is investigating a late-night apartment fire that sparked at an apartment building on Cook Street.

The blaze ignited in a second-storey unit at an apartment complex located in the 3200-block of Cook Street at around 10 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31.

Flames could be seen shooting out of the second-floor unit and multiple residents have been displaced as a result.

Investigators could be seen assessing the unit on Monday morning.

The Saanich Fire Department has confirmed that the apartment fire was fatal and that one person died in the blaze.

At this time it is unclear if the fire is considered suspicious.
