Saanich police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles as they deal with a number of thefts out of cars that have been entered unlawfully.

Officers say many of the robberies reported have come when the vehicle has not been secured, either with unlocked doors or windows left partially open.

Credit and gift cards, cash and insurance papers are among items that have been lifted.

“Saanich Police are asking for the public to be vigilant and to ensure that valuables are removed from their vehicles and to properly secure vehicles,” A/Sgt. Damian Kowalewich said.

“We currently have the ‘property’ side of our street crime unit looking into these crimes and attempting to identify suspects.”

Authorities are hoping to speak with anyone who has been the victim of a recent vehicle theft.

Saanich police are asking people to call if you see anyone acting suspiciously, especially in the late evening or early morning hours.
