Saanich Police have arrested an allegedly impaired driver following a hit-and-run in Victoria on Wednesday afternoon.

The driver was still driving the heavily damaged black BMW when officers pulled the car over.

Police say officers were able to catch up with the driver thanks to calls from the public.

The driver was given an administrative 90-day prohibition. According to ICBC, this ban is issued to impaired drivers under the Motor Vehicle Act and is separate from any Criminal Code charges that may result from the same incident.

Criminal charges against the driver are still pending, says Saanich PD.

Dashcam footage provided by another driver shows that the crunched BMW could still be driven as it slowly moves along Glanford Avenue in Saanich.

There is no word yet on what the driver had allegedly hit before taking off.
