Saanich Police have issued a word of warning to motorists on Monday morning, emphasizing drivers should use extreme caution while on the roads due to icy conditions.

According to Saanich PD, officers responded to reports of multiple vehicles sliding on black ice in the area of the 1800-block of Munn Road.

Police say that when they arrived on scene, multiple vehicles had wound up sliding into the ditch as a result of the road conditions.

At this time, no injuries have been reported from the vehicle incidents, however, there are some delays in the area as police stand by for salt and tow trucks.

Saanich Police say they have also received reports of slick conditions on Hartland Road near the Capital Regional District landfill.

According to those reports from the area, trash collection trucks were sliding backwards on the grade near the top of the road.

The department is stressing to the public to use caution on local roadways throughout the morning “as it is apparent that winter weather is still a factor.”
