Saanich Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) is asking the public for their thoughts as it works on a new action plan.

PRCS is developing a new comprehensive Direction and Action Plan (DAP) to guide the department’s work over the next 10 years and support the growing need for recreation facilities, programs, and community events.

This will replace the department’s previous Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan, which was created in 2012.

The goal of the new plan is to unite new and existing strategies, form a comprehensive framework with clear objectives and actions, and correspond metrics and outcomes.

The Pooni Group, an urban planning and communications company, has been contracted to lead the development of the DAP in consultation with PRCS leaders.

The community is being asked to participate in one of several opportunities for public input and engagement.

A public survey on PRCS’ vision and mission statement has been launched online. It will be open until Feb. 5.

Those who prefer a paper copy can get one at any Saanich recreation centres. Respondents who complete and submit their surveys by Feb. 5 can choose to enter a draw for a Saanich Recreation prize package.

A pop-up engagement event is also scheduled to coincide with the Family Arts Festival, happening on Family Day, Feb. 19, at Cedar Hill Recreation Centre.

Additional engagement opportunities will be announced on the district’s website and social media accounts.

The DAP is expected to be presented to council by the late fall.
