A Saanich man is facing three charges in relation to a sexual assault in a home in the Gordon Head neighbourhood almost two months ago.

Saanich police said on March 17 an unknown man carrying a knife entered a townhouse located on the 3900-block of Wolf Street at around 2 am.  A 22-year-old woman from the Lower Mainland was sexually assaulted. The woman was staying with friends from UVic.

Late Tuesday night, a 23-year-old man from Saanich was arrested in connection with the sexual assault. The man is facing three charges: sexual assault with a weapon, break and enter and forcible confinement.

Police said the man will appear in court Wednesday. They have not released his name.

Police also said the sexual assault “was a very traumatic crime that significantly impacted the 22-year-old female victim.” Saanich police have been in communication with the woman and are making sure support services are available.

“Due to the sensitivity of this investigation and the forthcoming court process, no further information will be released at this time,” Sgt. Julie Fast, public information officer for Saanich police, wrote in a release.
