The West Shore RCMP have arrested a man in relation to a stabbing in View Royal.

On July 18, around 2:40 p.m., RCMP responded to the area of Helmcken Road for a report of a stabbing. On scene, a victim was found with non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, police say.

Given the proximity to Saanich, Saanich police also responded to the report and located the suspect, according to RCMP.

The suspect, a 29-year-old male from Saanich, was arrested for assault with a weapon and is currently being held in custody by the West Shore RCMP, where he was expected to be brought before the courts Wednesday.

“The victim and suspect do not appear to have a relationship and the violence appears to be unprovoked. Police are continuing their investigation and do not believe there is a risk to the public as the suspect is currently in custody,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP media relations officer.
