A fire at Island Outfitters in Saanich Jan. 4.

An outdoor gear company says it plans to rebuild following a devastating fire last week, the cause of which is still unknown.

Island Outfitters provided an online update and says its entire inventory has been destroyed and the building at Douglas St. and Cloverdale Ave. is severely damaged.

Saanich Fire said Friday its investigation is complete, but could not comment further on what caused the fire because of an ongoing investigation by Saanich Police.

The fire happened in the early morning hours of Jan. 4, and fire officials say it originated in some exterior storage sheds at the rear of the building.

There were no injuries.

Island Outfitters says they’ll be rebuilding the business as soon as possible and will attend to every outstanding customer issue including those with gift cards.

They add their other businesses, including fishing charters, accommodation rentals, and events are continuing as usual.

“We also wish to thank the community, as we have been inundated with expressions of concern and condolence,” the Island Outfitters statement said.

“The business community has also stepped up without hesitation, offering jobs to many of our employees at this difficult time of upheaval and disruption to their lives.”
