Saanich Fire crews were called to a home on the 800-block of Canterbury Road around 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
A neighbour called 911 after seeing flames and smoke coming from the house near the Pat Bay Highway and McKenzie Avenue.
Fast arriving crews witnessed flames and smoke rising 15 meters above the structure.
It is under renovation and no one was inside when the fire started.
The Saanich Fire Department reported that the fire has been knocked down about 30 minutes later.
No word yet on the cause.
There was heavy smoke and fire damage to the structures estimated at $200,000.
