A home in a remote area outside Campbell River has been destroyed following a fire Friday night.

At 6:45 p.m. crews from the Campbell River Fire Department were called to the house fire. The home was 20 minutes away from the station, and west of the airport and up a rough gravel road.

When they arrived the home was fully engulfed in flames, but the owner was able to escape with their animals.

A video posted by the department shows the severity of the fire.

Crews were able to contain the blaze and kept it away from nearby propane tanks and a construction site.

Due to the remote area, the department called in their water tender truck, along with neighbouring Oyster River’s truck.

A nearby river was used for a water supply.

“The good news is everyone escaped,” said Campbell River firefighter Scott Kratzmann.

“Where they live a beautiful location, but a long way from town.”

Investigators say it does not appear suspicious, and the cause is under investigation.
