WATCH: Victoria Royals forward Phillip Schultz potted his first career WHL hat trick in a 5-3 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds on Wednesday night at the Save-on -Foods Memorial Centre.

Coming off a 5-3 loss the night prior, the Royals found themselves in an early hole after a slow start to the game. But after the opening goal, the Royals responded.

Schultz would score on the power play to even the game at 1-1, and after the first intermission, Kaid Oliver would give the Royals the lead.

Schultz would add another goal minutes later, as he walked into the Seattle zone and rifled a wrist shot top corner to give the Royals a 3-1 lead. In the dying seconds of the game with the Royals up 4-3 and the Thunderbirds’ net empty, Schultz scooped up a loose puck at his own blue line and sank the long shot into the yawning cage for the hat-trick, sealing the Royals’ victory.

The Royals now hit the road for a weekend clash against the Spokane Chiefs and Tri-City Americans.
