The southbound lanes near the Malahat Summit were closed for close to a couple of hours Monday after a travel trailer flipped over.

Drive BC said the incident happened north of Whittaker Road, before Mill Bay Road, on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Malahat Fire Chief Tanya Patterson said crews were called out at 4:45 p.m.

The southbound lanes closed before 5 p.m. but reopened just before 6:30 p.m. Delays are expected to continue due to heavy congestion.

Photos from Cheryl Parker and Kevin Gosselin show an RV on its side. Patterson said the 28-foot (nine metre) trailer, which was attached to a pickup truck, was reportedly fishtailing before it flipped on its side. Speed is not believed to be a factor.

The trailer was towed away from the scene and no injuries were reported.
