A rollover crash led to a brief power outage and closed a section of West Saanich Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency crews responded to the single-vehicle collision on West Saanich Road near Willis Point Road just before 2 p.m.

According to Saanich police, the driver lost control of their SUV, hit a ditch and rolled over. At some point during the collision, the vehicle sheared a brace pole that supports a main power pole across the road.

West Saanich Road was closed from Wallace Drive to Durrance Drive until around 3:30 p.m.

Officials said the main power pole remained standing but since its integrity has been compromised, some lines were removed. BC Hydro crews assessed the pole.

Twenty-two customers were without power west of Caldecote Road, east of Wallace Drive, south of Saanich Road and north of Matterhorn Court, due to the collision. The power has since been restored.

The driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police said there is no indication drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
