Robinson’s Outdoor Store celebrates 89 years

CHEK

A staple of Victoria is celebrating an important milestone this weekend. Robinson’s Outdoor Store has now been operating for 89 years.

The family business began as a bicycle shop back in 1929.

The store has survived a World War, the Great Depression, and many other ups and downs.

Robinson’s has also expanded to carry a wide variety of other goods and has always stayed popular with customers.

“Just after 7 o’clock in the morning there were a few ladies that were outside in lawn chairs,” said David Keay from Robinson’s.

“They had been there since 6 or 6:30 in the morning. And then, by the time we opened the doors at 9 a.m. the lineup went down to the corner of Johnson, so there was maybe 120 people lined up before we opened the door yesterday, and then, of course, you open the door the first 89 people were given a gift bag.”
