Road to Recovery: Campbell River tourism officials find positives amid difficult year due to COVID-19

CHEK

This week our conversation takes us to Campbell River – a city that was expecting to have its best tourist season on record.

That didn’t happen. Instead, COVID-19 arrived, wiping those expectations away.

But there is a silver lining and city officials are hoping that locals will realize how much Campbell River has to offer.

In this episode of Road to Recovery, CHEK’s Joe Perkins speaks with Kirsten Soder, director of Destination Campbell River, about COVID-19 and its impact on tourism in the region.

Soder says while COVID-19 has had a negative impact on tourism, the region has benefited from more people travelling within B.C.

“It’s not that some people haven’t been here in years, it’s that they haven’t been here at all,” she said.

The segment “Road to Recovery” is done in partnership with Douglas Magazine.
