Road to Recovery: Businesses share the impact of the pandemic as they attempt to recover

CHEK

On this week’s segment of Road to Recovery with Douglas Magazine, CHEK’s Hannah Lepine chats with Emilie de Rosenroll, the CEO of South Island Prosperity Partnership.

Greater Victoria’s economic development alliance, South Island Prosperity Partnership, recently conducted a survey of 56 employers representing 16,449 employees in the region to find out the impact the pandemic has had on their businesses, the challenges and their outlook moving forward.

The results showed we are a region full of potential but also that we are at a critical turning point.

The survey respondents said the top barriers to business growth in the region are:

  1. Inflation and rising costs
  2. Workforce recruitment difficulties
  3. Housing and affordability

Emilie de Rosenroll discusses how, despite these significant challenges, respondents were largely optimistic about growth opportunities and expressed the value of focusing on economic development that promotes social wellbeing.
