A black Ford Ranger pickup truck is seen damaged following a single-vehicle crash on Cook Street near Kings Road in Victoria, Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023.

One person was sent to hospital following a single-vehicle crash in Victoria that damaged a utility pole and closed southbound lanes.

Just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, Victoria Police tweeted that southbound lanes of Cook Street between Kings Road and Hillside Avenue were closed following a crash.

The driver of a black Ford Ranger pickup truck, which belongs to Robbins Parking, hit the pole. The driver was the only occupant, and they suffered minor injuries and went to hospital as a precaution.

VicPD said investigators were on scene and power lines were down. “Please avoid the area if possible and thank you for your patience,” reads the tweet.

Photos captured by CHEK News show hydro crews on scene and the area blocked off with police tape.

In a notice, BC Hydro says about five customers in the 2500-block of Cook Street and 1100-block of Kings Road are without power due to a motor vehicle incident. Crews are on site working to restore the power, which should be back on by 9 p.m.
