Former Victoria Fire Department Chief Richard A.Couch has died,

The City of Victoria announced his passing on Friday.

Couch joined the VFD in May of 1976, and was promoted to Fire Chief in 2003.

He retired in May of 2006, marking the end of a 30-year career with the Department.

The City of Victoria notes Chief Couch was known as a gracious and cordial leader, athlete, friend and devoted family man.

He was also a member of the Victoria firefighter’s team in the 2017 Ride to Conquer Cancer.

It was a tribute to his successor and friend, retired Victoria Fire Chief Doug Angrove who passed away from cancer last May at the age of 59.

The City says funeral and recognition service details for Chief Couch will be announced in the near future.
