Air Canada has included two restaurants on Vancouver Island in its list of “Canada’s Top 10 Best New Restaurants,” released on Wednesday.

In its 18th annual rankings of notable restaurant openings, Air Canada named a restaurant in Ucluluet and another in Victoria as two of Canada’s best new dining spots.

Pluvio restaurant in Ucluelet took the fourth place spot, and Nowhere* a restaurant, based in Victoria, took fifth place.

Air Canada said there was “an unprecedented number of high-calibre restaurant openings” in the past year.

Clark Deutscher, a chef and owner of Nowhere* a restaurant, called the national recognition “honestly mind-blowing.”

“It was completely, completely unexpected for us,” Deutscher, whose restaurant opened in June 2018, said. “We’ve had Hanks for years right beside where we opened up nowhere and the support since we opened from the local community has been amazing.”

Air Canada says the list is created through a panel of leading industry experts from across the country, and an anonymous food critic tours their recommendations to select winners.
