
UPDATE: An hours-long standoff at a residence on Rydal Avenue in Cumberland has ended safely, according to Comox Valley RCMP.
“Thank you for your cooperation and support,” police said in a 1:56 p.m. tweet Sunday.
A suspect was seen handcuffed and put into an RCMP cruiser.

Comox Valley RCMP are responding to an ongoing police incident in Cumberland Sunday morning.
At around 9:30 a.m., RCMP said the incident was confined to a home in the 2600-block of Rydal Avenue and asked people to avoid the area.
“It started quite early,” said Lorraine Edward, a Cumberland resident.
She tells CHEK News that an ERT team appears to be on scene and nearby neighbours have been evacuated from their homes.
“Apparently, there’s someone in the house that’s armed,” said Edward.
RCMP said the public is not considered to be at risk.
