Comox Valley Search and Rescue (CVSAR) teams were called to Mt. Albert Edward Wednesday night as two hikers and a dog became trapped.
CVSAR’s Paul Berry says one of the two female hikers sustained a minor injury from a fall.
He says the two were disoriented on their way back down the mountain just west of the Comox Valley in Strathcona Park, and were also caught in heavy cloud conditions.
A helicopter brought in two search and rescue teams to get to the hikers and the dog.
At 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Berry said they were in the process of lowering the party to a safer location at Circlet Lake, northeast of the mountain.
Berry says because of the dense cloud conditions, the rescue effort lost its window to remove the hikers by air, so they will need to be hiked out of the area.
Berry estimates that it will take about three hours to complete.
