Victoria police arrested two men and seized replica handguns in separate incidents on Saturday and Sunday.

On March 2, just before 3 p.m, police officers saw a man riding a bicycle with his face covered and without a helmet on Bridge Street near Ellice Street. The officers stopped the man and began to speak to him. VicPD said the officers then noticed a bulge in the man’s waistband and when they asked the man about the bulge, he produced a replica handgun.

The officers arrested the man and while searching him after the arrest, they found an additional can of bear spray, a knife, cash and drugs. The man was held in custody for Tele-Bail.

Then on March 3, just before 2 a.m., officers were called to Yates Street near the Blanshard Street intersection for a report of a man walking with a gun. Officers found the man and took him into custody. A replica handgun was seized. VicPD said that man is known to police and the incident is still under investigation.

“These replica handguns are extremely difficult to differentiate from actual weapons,” Victoria police wrote in a release.
