Victoria Police Department is investigating after a replica firearm was seized following calls of a threat at a downtown service provider.

Police received a call Friday just after 12 p.m. that a man was at a service provider in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue with a firearm.

VicPD says the man had threatened service provider staff and people in the area were concerned after he’d been seen with a handgun.

Police officers arrived in the area and located the man, taking him into custody, but didn’t find the handgun on his person.

According to police, they learned the handgun was a replica and was with the man’s possessions not far away. Police say they searched the man’s possessions and found the realistic replica gun.

The man was released at the scene but is pending further investigation, according to VicPD.

Victoria Police say they are encountering realistic replica firearms and real firearms with increasing frequency.

VicPD is asking the public if they more information about this incident to call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.
