Two replica handguns have been seized by the Victoria Police Department after officers received a report of “a man with a gun” outside a multi-unit temporary residential housing facility.

The report was received in the early hours of Monday, April 26.

Frontline officers attended the temporary housing facility, located in the 3000-block of Blanshard Street just before 2 a.m.

Once police arrived on the scene, patrol officers were able to locate a man that matched the description and immediately took him into custody.

Police say they searched the man but did not locate any firearms on his person.

Subsequent searches of the nearby area led police to find two realistic replica firearms. No one claimed ownership of these weapons and they were seized for destruction.

Police released the man without charge.

“All firearms calls are high-risk. When officers are called to a call reporting a person with a gun, they must treat these weapons as though they are real until they are able to determine otherwise.”

The Victoria Police Department adds that officers responded to an increase in both real and replica firearms calls last year.
