The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) recently announced Douglas Holmes as their new chief administrative officer. His annual salary will be $250,000, according to the district.

Holmes, who has more than 25 years of experience in the public sector, previously served as the chief administrative officer for the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District and the Sunshine Coast Regional District. He was also employed with the City of Nanaimo between 2006 and 2013, serving as their general manager of corporate services and assistant city manager.

In the press release, Holmes said he’s excited to be joining the Regional District of Nanaimo.

“I am looking forward to bringing my skills and experience to the Regional District of Nanaimo,” Holmes said in a press release. “As a long-time resident of Nanaimo, I am familiar with both the opportunities and challenges we face as a region and appreciate the opportunity to help shape the future of the RDN.”

Tyler Brown, the regional district’s chair, said Holmes has a strong financial background, extensive public-sector experience, and comprehensive knowledge of the regional district and the central Vancouver Island area.

“We look forward to working with Mr. Holmes on our strategic priorities and charting a livable and environmentally sustainable path for the region,” said Brown in a press release.

Holmes, who graduated from Simon Fraser University, is expected to begin his role with the RDN on Aug. 23.
