A byelection for director of the Regional District of Nanaimo’s Electoral Area C will take place on Saturday, June 4.

Area C covers the Extension, East Wellington and Pleasant Valley areas.

Interested candidates can pick up nomination packages at the RDN admin office at 6300 Hammond Bay Road, Nanaimo.

Candidates can file nomination papers with the RDN’s chief election officer starting on April 19 while the deadline to file is 4 p.m. on April 29. Candidates are encouraged to call 250-390-4111 to make an appointment in order to file.

However, those potential candidates who are unable to deliver nominations in person, may swear the documents before a commissioner for taking affidavits in B.C. and mail or deliver documents to the chief election officer by the deadline. Originals of emailed nomination documents must be received by the chief election officer by May 6.

The byelection is being held in order to replace former Area C director Maureen Young who passed away last year.

Charles Pinker, alternate Area C director, has been serving in her place and will remain in his current capacity until a new director has been selected.
