RCMP have arrested two people and seized drugs, guns and cash from a residence in Nanaimo following a successful search warrant earlier this month.

In a police report issued on Tuesday, Nanaimo RCMP said that 48-year-old Tasha Leone and 28-year-old Kyle Busch have been remanded into police custody after their residence was searched on Saturday, Nov. 6.

Police said they entered the residence, located in the 1200-block of Nanaimo Lakes Road, at approximately 9 p.m. The search resulted in the seizure of 6 ounces of fentanyl, one ounce of cocaine and a small amount of methamphetamine. Additionally, $12,000 in Canadian currency and three unloaded shotguns were found.

The investigation was led by the Nanaimo RCMP Drug Unit, however, during the execution of the search warrant, the Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team (ERT) was used for entry due to the duo’s history of violence and the possibility of firearms being present.

RCMP say that this is the third significant seizure of fentanyl in Nanaimo over the past 2 weeks.

These seizures speak volumes to the dedication and commitment shown by our officers to eradicate this drug and others from our community. While our officers are pleased with these short term successes, they also recognize they must keep pressure on those involved in the drug trade, as other drug dealers are expected to fill the void left by those arrested,  said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

Officers say that Leone and Busch, who are currently before the courts on similar drug charges, were remanded until November 17th and November 23rd respectively.
