Comox Valley RCMP are investigating into an incident after a vehicle was broken into and the ashes of the victim’s deceased father were stolen.

Police said that they received the report of the incident, which occurred in Courtenay, on August 20.

The vehicle was parked in the 700-block of 8th Street and the break-in took place at some point overnight.

According to police, the ashes were in a plastic bag within a blue velvet drawstring pouch located inside the glove compartment of the vehicle.

“Obviously, this is something of great sentimental value to the owner” said Cst. Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer, Comox Valley RCMP.

“We would like people in the area to keep an eye out for this blue velvet pouch since it may have been tossed onto the ground or into the bushes.” she added.

Anyone with information about this theft or the whereabouts of the blue velvet pouch is asked to call the Comox Valley RCMP at (250) 338-1321.

If you wish to make an anonymous report, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or online at comoxvalleycrimestoppers.bc.ca.
