The Shawnigan Lake RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect who is believed to have broken into a Royal Canadian Legion early on Remembrance Day.

Police say the incident took place shortly after 9 a.m. on November 11, when the Shawnigan Lake RCMP received reports of a break and enter to the local Royal Canadian Legion along Shawnigan Lake Road.

According to RCMP, video surveillance showed a suspect arriving in a black pickup and using a tool to cut a lock off of some storage sheds on the property.

The suspect also damaged the surveillance cameras, but not before video and still photos were obtained, said Sergeant Chris Manseau, BC RCMP media spokesperson. This is a pretty distinctive pickup, and its very likely that this vehicle and suspect will be recognized by a member of the public.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a mid-1990s black Nissan pickup with a white stripe down the passenger side that does not extend to the box.

Anyone who may recognize the suspect in the picture below, or the vehicle that has been described by police, is being asked to contact the Shawnigan Lake RCMP Detachment at 250-743-5514.
