A Port Hardy man was assaulted after he confronted another man about an alleged incident involving an airsoft gun and his family member.

The incident happened at around 12 p.m. at the Chancellor Heights trailer park when the victim had gone to the suspect’s confront him about a previous incident.

According to the BC RCMP, the victim was upset because the neighbour had allegedly shot a member of the man’s family with an airsoft-type gun earlier in the week.

“When the victim arrived, the suspect allegedly went into their residence and returned with a weapon that is believed to have been used on the victim, causing them serious injuries,” Cpl. Chris Manseau, media relations officer for RCMP on Vancouver Island, said in a press release.

The victim sustained serious injuries to his body, requiring immediate medical treatment, and was taken to hospital by nearby witnesses before police could arrive.

Eventually, police officers arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect without incident and searched his residence for any evidence related to both alleged incidents.

The suspect, who has not been identified, is currently in custody and is expected to appear in court on April 19.

Meanwhile, BC RCMP say the investigation is still ongoing and are asking those who have information to come forward.

“The investigation into this incident continues and it appears that the suspect and victim were known to each other, and there is no risk to the public,” added Manseau.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Port Hardy RCMP at 250-949-6335.
