The Vancouver Island Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) is investigating what led to the sudden death of a 37-year-old woman at a home in East Sooke last week.

Sooke RCMP went to the house on the morning of May 4 and after assessing the scene the VIIMCU was asked to assist, with the help of the B.C. Coroners Service.

Police say the investigation is in its early stages and it’s not clear what circumstances played a role in the woman’s death.

Cst. Jeff McArthur with the Sooke RCMP says it is not yet certain if a crime was even committed.

“Just because major crimes unit were called in it doesn’t necessitate that there was a crime. They are just called in to assist the coroner in trying to find out what happened here. It is still unclear to us what specific circumstances played a role in this woman’s death,” said McArthur.

As investigators gather evidence, RCMP does not believe there is any risk to the public.

If anyone has a tip regarding this case, you are asked to call the VIIMCU Information Line at 250-380-6211, or Crime Stoppers.
