RCMP look for public's help in investigation into intentional poisoning of 25 trees in Mill Bay

Shawingan Lake RCMP are now looking to the public for help in an investigation launched four months ago into the intentional poisoning of 25 trees in Mill Bay.

They say the trees were located on a private waterfront property.

The property’s owner contacted RCMP saying that the trees had numerous holes drilled in them, and it was believed that a herbicide or poison put into the holes.

It’s believed the incident that caused the death of the trees took place around March of this year.

RCMP say the property owners now face a significant cost to have the trees removed before they fall over and potentially damage neighbouring properties.

There is also the environmental impact of the loss of so many mature trees.

RCMP say they have reached out to many members of the local community during the course of their investigation, but are now asking members of the public for their help in determining who was responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Shawnigan Lake RCMP at 250-743-5514 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
